New Youth Mentoring Program Approved 

The Sunnyland Chapter of the ACBS at the last annual meeting approved the first phase of a youth mentoring program.  Richard Arnold, of RejuvenationWoodworks agreed to serve as director of the program.  The first phase will be held at the next annual wooden boat Festival on Lake Dora, Tavares Florida.  Several teams of young people will be mentored inthe building of a small and easy to build hydroplane boat.  the mentoring sessions will start in January to teach the young people Basic Skills in boat building.  Members of these teams will then build the boat in a day, on site, at the Wooden Boat Festival.  Sponsors are welcome to join, as did Mercury Marine.  Mercruiser donated 4 brand-new 9.9 outboard motors with cable steering gear, controls, and fuel tanks.  The prototype is currently being developed at the shop.  We encourage everyone to get involved.  Come by and talk to us.

Traditional Lapstrake Boat Building Class

 

The class will explore several important aspects of traditional boat building. As you join in with other students you will be introduced to fundamental boat building. Lofting, lining off, geting out a plank, mold building, lapstrake construction with clinch nail tradition and steam bending are a few of the interesting lessons to enjoy! Call about scheduling and pricing. The class is divided into two segments during April and May and is limited to 10 students. Monday thru Friday. Local restaurants and accomodation are available.
